Social service providers often lack the time and money to match their business strategy to new future challenges. Time pressure is getting worse, especially in elderly care and facilities for the handicapped, physical and psychological stress is growing, and the average age of employees and clients is increasing. Consequently, employee turnover and sick leaves are increasing, while motivation is generally declining. The Compliment project seeks to prepare social service providers and their employees for this change in their profession: Through a dialogue-based process, competences will be analysed, future requirements will be stated and educational needs be detected, while through self-directed learning personal development will be instigated and organisational changes will be implemented.
Within the Compliment project, two learning groups have introduced self-directed learning in elderly care facilities and facilities for the handicapped. The introduction was also evaluated. The concept of “self-directed and intergenerational learning with problem-oriented learning projects” was released.
